What Is the Best Filler for Marionette Lines?

In our experience, the most effective filler for treating the marionette line is either Juvéderm Ultra Plus® or Radiesse®, depending on the depth and configuration of the marionette lines. However, choosing the right filler for a specific need is an intricate process.

First, it’s important to understand what marionette lines are before diving into the different options available and which one might be the best choice for achieving the desired results.

What Are Marionette Lines?

Marionette lines, also known as melomental folds, are lines that extend from the corners of the mouth down the chin. The name “marionette” originates from the puppets that share the name and have a similar look, thanks to a marionette string that extends down the same area of the face.

Marionette lines develop because of age, genetics, and lifestyle factors, such as smoking and sun exposure. They can be mild, moderate, or severe. Fillers are the most popular non-surgical treatment for marionette lines.

How Long Do Fillers Last for Marionette Lines?

Filler treatment for marionette lines can last anywhere from 6 to 18 months. However, the effects of filler treatments for marionette lines will vary based on the treatment option a patient selects as well as other factors like age and medical history.

Take a look at the results of these non-surgical fillers for marionette lines in our before and after gallery to see the incredible effects that even one treatment can produce.

Fillers are a common option for patients looking to refresh their faces and achieve a more youthful look. They offer a quicker, more affordable, and less risky solution, as compared to a surgical face lift.

Marionette Lines Treatment Options

Which marionette line treatment option works best for a particular patient depends greatly on their anatomy, medical history, and desired results.

Juvéderm® is recommended for the patient who have shallow marionette lines, but for patients with very deep marionette lines, Radiesse® is recommended as a base and often Juvéderm® as a pillow-top technique.

It’s important to understand, however, that other fillers are effective for this area as well.

Juvéderm® for Marionette Lines

Juvéderm Ultra Plus® is our recommended treatment for mild to moderate marionette lines.

As a filler, Juvéderm® works to restore volume to the lower face through its unique hyaluronic acid formula, which bonds with the water molecules already present in the skin to create a naturally smooth look. Plus, these Juvéderm® injections are cost-effective, minimally invasive with a quick healing time, and can last for up to one year.

Botox® for Marionette Lines

While less common than fillers, Botox® is another option for marionette line treatment.

Botox®, also known as botulinum toxin A, is a muscle relaxant that works to relieve the tension along the lower face, thus reducing the force that can pull down the sides of the mouth, causing marionette lines.

As such, Botox® treatment for marionette lines also often includes layering filler on top of the area to create more volume. For deeper folds and creases, this combination can be effective and affordable. Botox® treatments for the lower face can last for up to six months.

Radiesse® for Marionette Lines

Like Juvéderm®, Radiesse® is one of our go-to treatments for marionette lines, often most useful in more severe cases.

Radiesse® is a dermal filler that works with the body to increase the production of collagen while simultaneously providing a filler effect. Therefore, Radiesse® helps patients maintain results more naturally and for a longer period of time.

In fact, Radiesse® treatments can last for up to a year or more, especially when combined with other treatments such as Juvéderm to provide additional volume to the area.

Choosing the Best Filler for Your Marionette Line Treatment

At The Rejuva Center, based on our extensive experience, we have found that Juvéderm®, Radiesse®, or a combination of the two is often the best treatment for marionette lines.

These filler treatment options typically provide the desired results and are most cost-effectively for the average patient.

However, the best option for a personal budget, health history, and desired results varies for each individual patient.

We highly recommend that you schedule a consultation and allow our experienced medical staff to examine your skin, discuss your history, and help you design the perfect treatment plan for marionette lines. Contact us today to schedule an appointment.
