It’s here!  We can now reduce unwanted pockets of fat in only 35 minutes.  Cool Sculpting treatments are very popular here at Rejuva Center and now they are better than ever.  We have the latest technology from Zeliq with the newest Cool Advantage applicator.

Cool Sculpting is a non-invasive technology that freezes fat cells.  It uses vacuum suction to draw tissue into an applicator designed to treat a specific area of the body.  Cold is then delivered through the applicator to the tissue.  When subcutaneous fat cells are exposed to the cold, they are damaged.  These damaged cells then die and are removed from the body through natural processes.  It can take approximately 3-4 months to see results.  But, many of our patients report that they see and feel a difference in as little as 1 month.

Coolscuplting is not a weight loss tool, but is very effective at reducing pockets of fat resistant to diet and exercise.  We can treat the abdomen, flanks, bra line, outer thigh, inner thigh, banana roll and submental (chin).  The new Advantage Applicator makes these treatments better than ever by having a shorter (35 min) treatment time and a more comfortable cup design to the applicator.  The previous applicator design required the tissue to be drawn between two cooling panels.  This was effective in cooling the fat cells, but often caused a strong, uncomfortable tugging/pulling sensation throughout the treatment.  The new Advantage Applicator is designed as a cup that cradles the pouch of fat allowing the tissue to rest.  The entire cup is a large cooling panel allowing all surface of the treatment area to be affected by the cold.  Patients are reporting a more comfortable experience during the treatments and love that they can treat more areas in a shorter amount of time.   During their treatment time, many patients are able to continue working on their personal devices, read, watch tv, nap or receive another service such as Microneedling, a chemical peel or Botox.

Not only are our Coolsculpting treatments done in a shorter amount of time.  But, we can now Coolsculpt the newly FDA approved banana roll.  What’s a banana roll you ask?  It is actually not a dessert, but the area of fat on the back of your leg, under your buttocks and above your hamstring.  It is also referred to as the pocket of fat under the gluteal fold.  This area is extremely difficult to address with diet and exercise so, Coolsculpting is a great option.  And although it has not been clinically proven, many patients report a reduction in the appearance of their cellulite in this area.

One of the most popular areas of the body to treat with coolsculpting is the abdomen.  Many patients don’t like how their stomach hangs over their pants when they sit down, their stomach is uncomfortably tight in their pants or their stomach just doesn’t look smooth under a favorite shirt.  To determine if you might be a good candidate for Coolsculpting on your abdomen, look at your bare stomach straight on in a mirror.  Are you round all over?  Or, do you have pockets of fat that you just haven’t been able to get rid of through diet and exercise?  The best candidates for Coolsculpting have distinct pockets of fat; they are not just big all over.  Next, look at the type of fat that you have.  Are the pockets of fat on your abdomen soft and pinchable?  Or firm with a minimal amount of pinchable tissue?  The best candidates for Coolsculpting have very soft, squeezeable pouches of fat.  These pouches of soft, superficial fat are called subcutaneous fat and this subcutaneous fat is what coolsculpting can address.  There is another type of fat called visceral fat.  Visceral fat is the fat that lives deeper in the body.  Visceral fat is underneath the muscles and all around the organs.  Visceral fat is also called the “bad” or “dangerous” fat.  The good news about visceral fat is that it responds best to diet and exercise.  Coolsculpting will not affect visceral fat.  Again, Coolsculpting can reduce subcutaneous fat that is most superficial.  This is the  soft, squeezable fat that is not easily affected by diet and exercise.   Coolsculpting will not help you lose weight or reduce visceral fat that is underneath the muscle and around your organs.

Often, we see patients that have the right amount and kind of fat for Coolsculpting, but they also have loose skin, stretch marks or scar tissue from previous abdominal surgeries or pregnancies.  While Coolsculpting works wonderfully on reducing fat cells, it has not been clinically proven to tighten skin or reduce stretch marks.  Therefore, if a patient has loose skin, we refer them to our breast and body specialist Dr. Polynice.   Dr. Polynice is a plastic surgeon specializing in breast and body contouring.  He is our expert and if the Coolsculpting specialists at our practice have any question of what procedure is best for a patient to meet his/her goals, the patient is sent to Dr. Polynice for further evaluation.  Other reasons to be evaluated by Dr. Polynice prior to your Coolsculpting procedure include medical history of any bleeding disorders, any previous abdominal surgeries, history of hernia or any medical condition that causes you to be more susceptible/sensitive to cold; such as Raynaud’s disease.

For the right candidate, Coolsculpting produces wonderful results.  Every day we have more and more satisfied Coolsculpting patients.  You can view some of our before/after pictures on our website, instagram and pintrest.

While Coolsculpting produces great results on its own, many patients want to know what else they can do to enhance their results.  I tell patients to continue their diet and exercise plans.  You will not lose weight by Coolsculpting, but you will look better and enhance your results if you lose weight.  Many patients comment that Coolsculpting has motivated them to stick to a diet and exercise regimen.

Another way to enhance results is to not take any anti-inflammatory drugs during the 48 hours after your coolsculpting treatment.  Coolsculpting uses your body’s own inflammatory process to kill the fat cells.  If you inhibit the body’s inflammatory process, it is possible to reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.  Therefore, people who take chronic anti-inflammatories, for conditions such as arthritis, may not be the best candidates for Coolsculpting.

Lastly, you can enhance your results by paying attention to and treating your skin.  Skin care will not encourage fat cell death, but it will make you look better.  There are some great firming body serums and moisturizers out there for post Coolsculpting.  My favorite cream is Revision’s Nectifirm.  When used post Cool mini under the chin, it hydrates, soothes, brightens the skin and reduces the appearance of fat under the chin.  Remember, one can always tell a person’s age by the skin on their neck/chest and hands.

A great way to learn more about Coolsculpting and discover if you are a candidate for treatment is to attend one of our free seminars.  At Williams Rejuva Center we offer many free seminars.  They are offered during the evening on a weekday.  So you can stop by after work, invite a friend to join you, relax, have some refreshments and learn about treatments we offer.  The Coolsculpting seminars typically start with a short presentation, a treatment demonstration and then our staff of nurse practitioners, RNs and patient care coordinators can assess you and answer any questions.   Take advantage of special promotional pricing during the seminar and just enjoy unwinding at a Rejuva Center “happy hour” before heading home.

Our next Coolsculpting seminar is on October 26th @ 5:30pm

Call Rejuva Center at 518-786-7004 to reserve your spot.

See you there!
