The eyes are often referred to as the windows of the soul, but as we age, they can also be a reflection of our advancing years. One common sign of aging is the sagging of the lower eyelids, which can make us appear tired, sad, or older than we feel (or want to look). While surgical procedures like blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery) are available to address this issue, not everyone is interested in exploring options that involve invasive cosmetic surgery.

This is particularly true in light of the growing number of effective nonsurgical treatment options available today. At The Rejuva Center, several nonsurgical, noninvasive eye rejuvenation solutions are available to help improve the appearance of sagging lower eyelids as people age, and our highly trained staff has the experience to provide them all.

Injectables: Botox and Dermal Fillers for Sagging Lower Eyelids

Botox® (botulinum toxin) is a neurotoxin that can temporarily reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the muscles responsible for their formation. When used around the eyes, Botox® can create results that many patients equate to being like a nonsurgical eyelid lift. Specifically, around the eye area, Botox® is often used to treat crow’s feet, forehead lines, and frown lines between the eyebrows, leading to a more rejuvenated, awake, and youthful appearance.

Similarly, dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid (HA), such as Juvéderm® and Restylane®, or collagen-based products, such as Sculptra®, can add volume to the under-eye area and fill in hollows and fine lines. These types of fillers help reduce the appearance of bags and dark circles, providing a more youthful look.

IPL Laser Treatment & Light Therapy

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) therapy is a noninvasive treatment that uses intense pulses of light to target pigmentation irregularities, such as brown spots and redness around the eyes. At The Rejuva Center, we use the Stellar M22 IPL Laser by Lumenis, which is known for its ability to deliver safe, effective, and noninvasive treatments for patients of all ages. Properly applied, IPL can improve skin tone and texture, thus enhancing the eye area and helping reduce discoloration.

Another safe and noninvasive method for rejuvenating the eye area is LED light therapy. Using a wand similar to IPL, this type of light therapy works by stimulating collagen production, which helps reduce fine lines and enhance skin elasticity. It can also be used to reduce puffiness and inflammation around the eyes.

Chemical Peels for Skin Tightening

Chemical peels involve applying a chemical solution to the skin, which chemically exfoliates the outer layer and promotes the growth of new, smoother, tighter skin beneath the surface. These types of peels can improve the appearance of fine lines, uneven skin tone, and texture around the eyes. It’s important to note that superficial peels are generally recommended for the sensitive eye area.

Eye Creams and Serums

Eye creams and serums are some of the first noninvasive options that people try when they want to rejuvenate their undereye area; however, not all eye creams and serums are the same. Medical-grade cosmetics that contain active ingredients like retinol, hyaluronic acid, peptides, and antioxidants that are capable of hydrating, firming, and rejuvenating the skin around the eyes are generally the best ones to use.

In addition, products that include caffeine as an ingredient can reduce puffiness, while those with peptides can stimulate collagen production. Collagen is a natural protein produced by the body that diminishes the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.

Noninvasive Eye Rejuvenation Solutions at The Rejuva Center

When considering noninvasive eye rejuvenation solutions, it’s essential to consult with an experienced practitioner to determine the best approach for your individual needs. Some key considerations include your specific concerns (wrinkles, puffiness, dark circles, etc.), skin type, and the amount of time you can afford to spend recovering. Additionally, a combination of treatments may be more effective for addressing multiple concerns.

Whether you are addressing a sagging, drooping lower eyelid, fine lines and crow’s feet, puffiness and discoloration, or some combination of all these issues, many noninvasive solutions are available to rejuvenate your eye area and help you regain a more youthful look.

At The Rejuva Center, our experienced staff understands the delicacies of the lower eyelid and the entire eye area.
