RHA® Fillers FAQs

  • 01.What is RHA® Filler?

RHA® fillers entered the United States market in 2020 as the first (and only) hyaluronic acid filler that is approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) to treat dynamic wrinkles and folds.

RHA® fillers can safely and effectively target the areas in the face that undergo frequent, repetitive movements, such as the nasolabial folds.

The filler is made of a complex and resilient formula that closely imitates the natural hyaluronic acid produced by the body. As a result, patients who choose RHA® filler treatment enjoy skin with a fuller, smoother appearance without the restricted movement that is often associated with other dermal fillers.

  • 02.How Long Do RHA® Fillers Last?

With proper maintenance and aftercare, the effect of RHA® fillers can last for up to 15 months.

  • 03.Is RHA® Better Than Juvéderm®?

The company that developed RHA® fillers, TEOXANE, was founded by Madame Valerie Taupin, who is also the co-creator of Juvéderm®.

Not surprisingly, the dermal filler options very closely resemble one another. The difference is the more natural movement available when using RHA® fillers to treat deep creases and areas of frequent movement.

Whether or not RHA® fillers or Juvéderm® is the best option will depend on a variety of factors, including age, medical history, and desired results. During your consultation appointment, a medical provider will help you understand which option or combination of dermal fillers will help achieve the desired results.

  • 04.What is the Cost of RHA® fillers?

The average cost of one RHA® syringe is between $750 and $800.

  • 05.Is RHA® Filler More Expensive?

The cost of RHA® fillers is on par with other dermal fillers on the market. The ultimate price that patients pay will depend on the number of syringes of RHA® filler needed to achieve the desired results.

  • 06.Is RHA® Better Than Botox®?

RHA® is a type of hyaluronic acid dermal filler, like Juvéderm® and Restylane®, which works to add volume to the face and smooth wrinkles.

Botox®, on the other hand, is a neurotoxin that functions as a muscle relaxant that prevents dynamic movement in active areas of the face that can cause deeper wrinkles to develop over time.

Both RHA® fillers and Botox® work to treat active wrinkles; however, it is accomplished in different ways. When considering RHA® filler vs. Botox®, the best option depends on the desired results.

Be sure to discuss these differences with your medical provider during a consultation appointment to ensure an informed decision is made based on your personal circumstances.

  • 07.What Are the Side Effects of Restylane®?

As with any type of injection, the most common side effect of Restylane® treatment is swelling, bruising, and/or redness surrounding the injection site. This is generally mild and should subside in seven to 14 days, depending on the area injected.

Individual patients will experience side effects such as swelling and bruising differently, but can minimize this discomfort with simple steps, such as applying a cold compress to the injection area. If you’re worried about potential side effects from Restylane®, make sure to discuss it with your medical provider prior to treatment.

  • 08.Do RHA® Filler Work Immediately?

Yes, like other hyaluronic acid fillers, the results of RHA® will be visible immediately following treatment.

  • 09.Can You Use RHA® Filler Under Eyes?

There are three different types of RHA® fillers: RHA 2, RHA 3, and RHA 4. Each option targets different parts of the face, offering graduated results in line with the different needs of various parts of the face.

Experienced medical providers can apply RHA 4, which targets deep lines and wrinkles and adds visible volume to the face, to the under-eye area to add volume and lift.

  • 10. Do RHA® Fillers Hurt?

Like any injection, the most common complaint patients have about RHA® fillers has to do with pain at or near the injection site. Any additional pain or discomfort from RHA® fillers is rare.

Patients who desire to reduce injection site irritation may ask their medical providers to apply a topical anesthetic prior to beginning RHA® filler treatment.

  • 11.What is the Difference Between RHA® Fillers & Juvéderm®?

Both RHA® fillers and Juvéderm® use a hyaluronic acid formula to fill in lines and add volume to the face. However, TEOXANE developed RHA® after Juvéderm® with the specific goal of improving upon its formula.

While Juvéderm® and other hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Restylane®, can restrict dynamic facial movement, RHA® fillers contain a different type of hyaluronic acid that is processed at a lower temperature, allowing it to retain a chemical structure that is more closely aligned with the acid naturally produced by the body.

The more natural composition of RHA® helps the skin maintain its dynamic movement while still filling in deep lines and wrinkles in a manner like other hyaluronic acid fillers, such as Juvéderm®.
