Injectable fillers are not all created equal when it comes to the results they produce and how long those results last. For patients seeking fuller, luscious lips,Juvederm stands out as one of the preferred injectables. In the past we felt Restylane was the preferred choice but now we find that Juvederm is softer and actually lasts longer. The cost of each treatment is reasonable and relatively pain free — physically as well as on your pocketbook.

The risks are also minimal, as is the downtime involved. Many cosmetic physicians prefer Juvedermand its active ingredient, hyaluronic acid, because it does the job of Lip Augmentation well and the natural-looking result lasts up to nine months. If you are a healthy person and your goals are realistic, then you could be an excellent candidate for a lip augmentation procedure using Juvederm

Before Making a Decision

In the hands of an unskilled, inexperienced physician, Restylaneor Juvedermcan do more harm than good. Too much product in the wrong places can leave the patient with the proverbial “trout pout” of Joan Rivers proportions. The good news is that even a bad result from a botched injection can be reversed using an enzyme that quickly breaks down either.

Still, many doctors preferJuvederm because, like its hyaluronic acid based cousin Restylane and other injectables, it effectively enhances the size, shape and volume of one’s lips. The resultsare temporary. Which means you will need reinjections if you want to maintain the look that you’ve achieved.

Unlike other injectables like collagen, fat injections, and Radiesse, Restylane is considered a more “robust” injectable as the result is not as soft as in the case of Juvederm. For patients who desire robust lips, particularly if they are looking to enhance the appearance of naturally thin lips,Restylane yields great results when done along the lip line or within the pink area of the lip. It is also good when used to fill those fine lines and wrinkles that form near the lips as a person gets older. Some patients only want to enhance the border zone of their lips, while others desire more fullness in the body of the lips.

Too Much of a Good Thing?

Bottom line: it depends more on who is doing the treatment than the treatment itself. It doesn’t really matter which treatment you use if the surgeon is short on the necessary skills, training, experience, andthe artistic vision and sensibility. The minimalistic mantra of “less is more” also applies to the use of Juvederm or Restylane. Too much product may defeat the purpose. So, do your due diligence and choose your surgeon carefully.
