As people age, many start to notice visible changes in their faces, starting with forehead lines and crow’s feet, then moving on to smile lines and sagging jowls.

However, the signs of aging don’t stop at the face.

For many, changes to the neck, including more prominent vertical bands and sagging skin (turkey neck), are an inevitable sign of the aging process.

These changes do not have to be permanent or hard to handle.

In addition to more invasive procedures such as dermal fillers and surgical neck lifts, Botox® neck injections can have a remarkable effect on the signs of aging. Not only can you get Botox® for your neck, doing so is low-risk, minimally invasive, and highly effective.

How Botox® Neck Injections Work

Botulinum toxin A, or Botox®, relaxes the muscles around an injection site, allowing the body to resume a more normal and natural shape. It results in smoother skin, which creates a more youthful and natural look.

When someone gets Botox® injections in their neck, their medical provider strategically places the Botox® in a way that relaxes the otherwise tight muscles under the skin and smooths out the neck’s appearance.

The result is a reduced appearance of wrinkles, sagging skin, and presence of the protruding bands of the platysma muscle. As these Botox® for neck bands before and after photos show, the results are clear and visible, and minimally invasive.

Who Benefits from Botox® Neck Injections

Botox® neck injections treat a variety of common issues along the neck and jawline that occur as a result of the natural aging process. This includes reducing the appearance of vertical platysma bands and addressing horizontal lines and wrinkles along the entire neckline.

A full Botox® neck lift may also include injections along the jawline that serve to further relax the tight muscles below and smooth out the appearance of the neck, resulting in a tightened and lifted jawline.

Any patient who has vertical or horizontal neck lines who believes they would benefit from an overall smoothing of the skin in that area is a good candidate for Botox® neck injections.

For patients with sagging skin and a “double chin” look, Botox® neck injections can be helpful as well. But it often needs to be paired with more targeted treatments such as Kybella®, which is designed to address excess fat in the neck region.

What to Expect During a Botox® Neck Lift Procedure

The Botox® neck lift procedure is relatively straightforward and very similar to other Botox® treatments. Prior to treatment, patients need to stop taking certain medications and refrain from drinking alcohol for 24 hours.

On the day of the treatment, medical professionals may start by applying a topical anesthetic to the patient’s neck area to reduce pain at the injection site.  Next, the treatment process begins. Depending on desired results, treatment will take anywhere from 10 to 15 minutes.

Most patients experience only mild irritation from this procedure, although side effects may also include redness, swelling, and bruising near the injection site(s).

Some results may be immediate, but the full effect of neck Botox® takes 10 to 14 days to appear and lasts for approximately three to six months.
